Prior to surgery, our patients are thoroughly informed and educated in detail about the most important behavioral and nutritional guidelines during our consultation hours. You will also be instructed by our dietician before and after the surgery.

Eating is possible immediately. For the first two days, only liquids and oatmeal are allowed. After that, we recommend eating several small meals a day for two to three weeks. After that, a quick return to a normal diet is possible.

The average hospital stay after the procedure is two nights.

Incapacity for office work is 4-7 days. Physical work is not allowed for eight weeks and lifting weights over 5-7 kg should be avoided at all costs during this time. Extreme sports (martial arts, parachuting, extreme climbing, etc.) should also be avoided for three to six months.

All patients have a follow-up examination 6-8 weeks after surgery. Any questions or concerns can be discussed at this time. Treatment can usually be completed at this time.

However, in cases of severe oesophagitis, especially if Barrett’s disease has already been diagnosed earlier, an endoscopy should be performed approximately 12 months after surgery to monitor progress.
